Website Checkup

Your website was healthy in June. It needs a doctor now.

We checked skyfroglandscape.com in June and again today. In two months, three real problems showed up, and Google noticed. The good news: every one of them is fixable, and some big wins are sitting right next to them.

The report card

Graded like school: A is great, F needs help fast. "In June" shows what changed.
SubjectGradeWhat it means
Google's map boxFWhen neighbors search "gainesville landscaping," Google shows a map with 3 businesses. You are not in it. Gainesville Lawnscaping is, in the #1 spot.
Search rankingsDwas B+ in JuneIn June you were #1 on Google for "lawn weed service near me." Today you are not even on the first three pages. Other money searches slipped too.
Page signsCwas C in JuneEvery inside page tells Google its official address is a "www" version your site does not use. Mixed signals confuse Google. One setting fixes all of it.
SpeedDsame in JuneYour homepage takes over 3 seconds to show up on a phone. People leave slow sites before they ever see your work.
ReviewsB-4.7 stars is excellent. But you have 86 reviews and a competitor in the map box has 199. Google counts.
Pages people wantC+People search for things like "how much does landscaping cost" and lawn care in Ocala. Your site has no pages that answer them.
Accessibility (ADA)C-We tested your site against the ADA web standard. Visitors using screen readers hit 60 unnamed links in your gallery, and your orange buttons are too light to read on every page. Details on the accessibility page.
Links from other sitesAMore quality websites point to yours than to any competitor we checked. This is a real strength. You earned it.

Fix this week

These three are costing you customers right now, during your busiest season.

Fix now

1. Your rankings are sliding

In June you were the #1 result for "lawn weed service near me." We checked again today: you are gone from the first three pages. On "gainesville landscaping" you sit at #5 while Gainesville Lawnscaping holds #1. During peak season, those clicks are going to someone else's phone.

The fix: the two repairs below, plus a refresh of the pages that slipped. The slide is recent, which means it is catchable.

Fix now

2. Your pages give Google the wrong address

Your service pages moved to new addresses this summer. The move itself was done right. But every inside page still tells Google "my official address is the www version" of a page your site does not actually use. It is like printing the wrong suite number on every business card. Google gets confused about which page deserves the credit.

The fix: one website setting, corrected once, fixes every page at the same time. About an hour.

Fix now

3. A heavy, slow homepage

Your homepage weighs almost 5 megabytes and takes over 3 seconds to appear on a phone. We flagged this in June and nothing changed. Every extra second, more visitors give up. That is jobs walking away in your busiest months.

The fix: smaller pictures, smarter loading. Half a day, and the site feels instantly faster.

Big wins waiting

Once the bleeding stops, this is where growth comes from.

Growth

Get into Google's map box

That 3-business map box gets most of the clicks. You are not in it, and it is not because of your website's strength. It is your Google Business Profile and review count. We tune the profile, and we set up a simple system that politely asks happy customers for reviews. 86 today, past 199 is the target.

Growth

156 searches where you are almost winning

Your site shows up on page 2 of Google for 156 different searches. Nobody reads page 2. A little polish on those pages, and links between them, pushes them onto page 1. This is the cheapest traffic you will ever get.

Growth

Answer the questions people already ask

People type "how much does landscaping cost" into Google every day. Your site says nothing. Whoever answers gets the call. Same story for lawn care in Ocala, where searches now match Gainesville. We write those pages for you.

The good news

Your foundation is strong. More quality sites link to you than to any competitor. Your 4.7-star rating beats everyone nearby. Your site structure is smarter than most. Nothing here is broken beyond repair. It is a good house with a leaky roof, in the middle of the rainy season.

Can everyone use your website? (The ADA part)

About 1 in 4 adults lives with a disability, and the ADA applies to websites. We tested all your key pages against the official standard (WCAG 2.2 AA), by machine and by hand. Here is what we found, and why the timing matters.

Local reality

This is actively happening in Alachua County

Since September 2024, one Gainesville plaintiff working with a South Florida law firm has filed roughly 50 website accessibility lawsuits, about 43 of them against Alachua County businesses. Most settled. Reported all-in costs for a single business ran from about $6,500 to around $30,000 once the compliance work, legal fees, and settlement were added up.

These cases are built from automated scans. The plaintiff's firm runs a tool across local websites, screenshots the failures, and mails a demand letter. No warning first.

What a scanner sees today

Three findings on your site, all screenshot-ready

1. Your photo gallery has 60 links with no name. A visitor using a screen reader hears sixty identical, unlabeled stops and learns nothing about your work.

2. Your orange buttons ("Get a Quote" and friends) are too light against white and beige. They fail the readability standard on every single page, which is exactly the kind of high-count finding these letters lead with.

3. The menu button on phones has no name for assistive technology, so it announces as just "button."

The honest good news

Your site is better than most, and the fix is small

The hard part most sites fail, yours passes: the whole site works by keyboard alone, the menus and contact form included, and the form explains its errors properly. A real visitor with a disability can complete the journey. That matters, and it means your exposure is moderate, not severe.

The fix: mostly single settings and one color change, about 10 to 15 hours of work. And the fix creates a dated record showing you found the problems and repaired them, which is the single most useful thing to have if a demand letter ever arrives. Cheap insurance against a $6,500 to $30,000 problem.
